The top 10 careers that attract psychopaths

If you’ve been in the workplace for any extended period of time, chances are you’ve encountered a psychopath at some point in your career. Contrary to popular belief, not all psychopaths are serial killers or axe murderers. In fact, only a small majority of psychopaths are actually violent at all. Instead, you’ll find that psychopaths will almost always be superficially charming, yet can prove to be self-serving and callous on closer inspection. Thanks to the specific set of traits that defines psychopathy, they’re far more likely to be drawn to certain careers than to others.

What Is A Psychopath?

While ‘psychopath’ has become a catch-all term for murderers and the criminally insane in modern terminology, it actually has a very specific definition in the field of psychology. It is officially designated as ‘psychopathic personality’, though can also be called psychopathy or sociopathy — the latter of which is more often used correctly.
It’s estimated that a meagre one per cent of the population legitimately qualifies as a psychopath, though that number increases to 25 per cent among prison populations, perhaps unsurprising. What is more surprising is the fact that psychopaths may also be over represented in certain careers. Depending on where you work, you may be more likely to encounter psychopaths in your workplace — you may even be one yourself, like one neuroscientist who discovered his own psychopathic brain patterns at the age of 58.
Following is a list of the occupations where psychopaths will be most common and most rare, respectively,

Where you’ll find them:
1. CEO
2. Lawyer
3. Media (TV/Radio)
4. Salesperson
5. Surgeon
6. Journalist
7. Police Officer
8. Clergy
9. Chef
10. Civil Servant

You may notice there are certain similarities between all of the most psychopath-heavy careers, mainly the fact that they offer power — especially over other people — and will reward people for making objective, unemotional decisions. Not only would psychopaths find themselves drawn to these careers — they would likely thrive in them, and even find themselves being rewarded for their psychopathic behaviour. One study suggests that upper management positions may be made up of up to three per cent psychopaths, who are not nearly as high as the incidence of incarcerated psychopaths, but it’s still more than the one percent that makes up the total population.

Where You Won’t:
1. Care Aide
2. Nurse
3. Therapist
4. Craftsperson
5. Beautician/Stylist
6. Charity Worker
7. Teacher
8. Creative Artist
9. Doctor
10. Accountant

In contrast to the first list, these jobs are largely those that require empathy and compassion involve a lot of person-to-person contact and, more often than not, don’t offer the person much power. A psychopath in one of these positions would not do very well at all, or even enjoy the work — so if these are the kinds of people that you work with, then you’re more likely to be safe from workplace psychopaths.
Most of these positions are unsurprising, although there are some interesting parallels between the two lists — the difference between a surgeon and a doctor, or a salesperson and an accountant.
As it turns out, a minor deviation in your career path might suggest just how psychopathic — or not — you might be.                                                                                                                                                          Article by Hayley Williams

10 Easy habits that can clear your morning mind fog!

Make your bed in the morning.
Imagine you had a stressful day and the only thing you want to do is go to bed. My mood improves immediately when I think about how I will jump in my made bed. Making your bed takes 5 minutes. Your whole room will look much better and it's a perfect habit to start your day.

Eat breakfast.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. My favourite breakfast includes cereal with yogurt, fruits, nuts, and honey.  This was the perfect meal to start my day and help me be productive. Preparing a healthy, fresh breakfast takes at least 10 minutes. Furthermore, by preparing a meal you can see results immediately.

Use stairs.
Only use stairs instead of the escalator or lift. Moving stimulates the blood circulation and helps the lungs and heart receive enough. It improves your general physical condition and strengthens muscles and bones. Furthermore, it's a perfect every day workout, and your butt will thank you!

Create a sleeping ritual.
Using sleeping rituals will make you more relaxed and calm. I always light candles, listen to a few songs, and drink a cup of tea. While drinking my cup of tea and listening to music, I review my day. Especially the good things. When I had a hard day, I write. It helps clear my mind.

Write down your thoughts.
We will all have bad times. Like I already mentioned, write down your thoughts. Writing down your thoughts will help you move on.

Read.
"Increase your horizon and the world stands open for you." Read for at least 10 minutes a day. Choose something you love to read (novels, newspapers, comics...). For example, I love quotes. Reading quotes helps me manage certain situations, and they also just give me hope.

Appreciate the things you have.
When something offends you, think about the things you have. It's a "mini habit," and you will feel better immediately.

SMILE MORE!

Take a break.
It doesn't matter where you are or what are you doing right now. Try at least once a day to live in the moment. Sit down, drink a coffee or cup of tea (whatever your favorite drink is), and just enjoy your situation right now.

Don't take everything too seriously.
I admit it's actually not so easy. Some comments can hurt us, and we tend to overthink them. It might sound quite harsh, but for me it helps to remember the following: most people do not care what you think. Most people do not even care about you. Most people do not realize that whatever they said might have hurt you. People are different, and misunderstandings happen.
Why lose energy on such unimportant things?

HAS AUTOMATION KILLED THE CREDIT CONTROLLER?

8/11/2015

I recently attended a business breakfast sponsored by Bentleys Perth Chartered Accountants at Frasers Function Centre on Cloud Accounting Systems for SME’s.
The presenter was excellent and knew his stuff.
When he got to invoicing and follow up collections of the invoices he demonstrated a very good aspect to the system that you can email an invoice and when it comes to follow up and if the invoices have been paid or not paid the system tells you if the email was opened and by whom.

Picture

COWABUNGA!!

Then he explained with excitement that this will eliminate the old excuse!
“I haven’t received the invoice please send another – the old delayed payment trick”

Because then he said your bookkeeper can call your client, have the conversation and use the answer the email has been opened and I know by whom! so catching out your client and hence encouraging them to pay.
Also he said if your client doesn’t open the email the system will show that it hasn’t been opened and you can then have the conversation and when they – say I haven’t received the invoice you can press one key and another one will instantly be sent.
We all thought this was fantastic and great for cash flow!

THE KEY FACTOR THAT WAS NOT DISCUSSED WAS WHO WAS MAKING THE CALL FOR COLLECTION AND THUS PAYMENT OF THE INVOICE

The presenter was thinking SME and referred to the person making the call as the bookkeeper.
Most Bookkeepers keep the books and reluctant to make numerous collection calls.

CASH FLOW IS GENERATED BY A SKILLED CREDIT CONTROLLER!

This person is trained in the skills of negotiation, customer service and knows how to be
Firm but Fair when dealing with clients for payment of accounts and is not backwards in coming forward to follow up until the debt has been paid in full.
So when it comes to CASH FLOW IS KING make sure you have the right person managing that cash flow for the good health of the company.

Till next time,
