Article by Warren Myers founder CMP Recruitment & Credit Services

Women in Credit have been around since the Dawn of Business.

Take Micro Business’s and SME’s – who does the Accounts Receivables, Bookkeeping and accounts
making the business run smoothly – Women!
Right up to larger corporations who fill most of the chairs in Credit and Accounts, managing the
company accounts and maintaining cash flow – Women!
This takes me to a previous life where I called on companies for Credit Management matters and
the people who I spoke to were women because they were the Credit Officers and Accounts Receivables
prime movers.

Funny though back then most of the Credit Managers were Men?

What I did noticed there was a big ground swell of women who were coming up through the ranks
and knocking on the door of the Credit Team Lead and Credit Managers doors during this period in the 1990’s.

Times were a changing!

BUT it took another decade before it did change when women started to take the Credit Managers
jobs and then most of my line managers in credit who I supply staff to are women.

REASON being – Simply they are better at it!

Over the past 15 years I have placed women in team lead and middle management jobs in
credit and most of them excelled and became an essential member of the management team.
Some started just themselves and grew the team around them as the business developed,
others took a department of 10 and as the company made acquisitions they now manage over 25 credit people.

Now as managers they call CMP when they need Credit staff.

And now for the first time the WA Branch of the Australian Institute of Credit Management
has a women as President and this Year the Winner of the WA Young Credit Professional Award
was a Women. Also last year the National Young Credit Professional of the Year was a women.

Are we starting to see a trend here!

It is interesting to see more and more organizations are running Women in Business seminars
and one who has been a leader is the AICM who now have an annual event “ Women in Credit AICM “

If you would like to attend the WA Luncheon then you may register direct on this link or call
CMP on 9228 3300 for assistance.

When you are in need of a Professional Credit Person short list both Women and Men to interview
and make up your own mind.

Till next time,
